Social Media: Disaster or Miracle

Yesterday, my friend uploaded my most handsome pictures with some different angles on Face Book , then after some minutes I saw more than 20 comments and 50 likes. Some of them said it was too vulgar because they can see my six packs body but the rest put their likes and comment by saying awesome. Perhaps, these two different ideas can create pro and contra among us or we can say it will be disaster or miracle me.

The invention of technology seems never ends when new things are invented every time. Under their intelligence  the most sophisticated technology is invented. Especially, in social media like Face Book, Line, Twitter and others. Let us see Face Book, under Mark Zakkenberg it functions for communication, show up media where you can upload what is in your mind and learning media when you can learn updated idea from around the world. Some more, Indonesia is included as the first user in Asia and the third in the world.

Million Indonesian have got the benefit. See, only by tapping their gadget how a mother can communicate with their children in long distance, an online seller can market their product and can earn rupiahs every day, or even all of us here who can get more entertainment and happiness when we are gloomy. However, there are controversial  ideas tell that FB only give harm for people. Therefore, under the idea they want government ban FB and make it forbidden for us. Perhaps we still remember some problems occurs such as students porn video that was uploaded,  a woman In Jakarta who was jailed because of mockery and propaganda news spread by president’s candidates as black campaign.

Logically, all invented will share harmful and benefits. It will be disaster when you are controlled by FB but it will be a miracle when you can control it. The action done should be how we employ the FB in a wise way, then let it share more benefit for us. As scout members, I believe it will be a miracle for us when we can run the spirit of scout, being a wise man of doing all the things. Remember our Dasa Dharma No. 2 being mature in thoughts, statement and action. It guides us to be a wise of doing anything.

A wise means able to make a good judgment with deep understanding: 

1.      When we can use it effectively and efficiently

We believe we can spend more than one hour or sometimes half of the day staring on FB, is that only for chatting and others. Of course as students we have so many responsibilities to do, not only spend our time on FB. Therefore, we have to be effectively and efficiently to use FB. Effective on what is the goal of opening and efficient how long you will use it. This is should be done so we will not be gone too far.

2.      Know the limit when we use it

Perhaps we still remember the case of last general election when one of Jokowi haters mocked him on social media. At the end, police investigated and jailed him even only for some days. However, it might be happened on us when we forget to limit and control our emotion. Now we have UU ITE that concern on the rules and punishment. It will strictly prosecute us when we go beyond the border.

To conclude, technology is depend on us, how we control it. Never let ourselves become the victim. Let’s be a wise man to use it. So at the end, it will miracle not disaster for us.
